Biogas upgrading to biomethane

Gfuel and gCompress guarantee reliable and high-quality biogas upgrading and pressurisation for refuelling and resale.

Biogas upgrading unit

Our biogas upgrading and pressurisation technology can be connected to the biogas plant during construction, later and other biogas plants. From the gFuel unit located next to the biogas plant, the gas is led via a natural gas pipeline to the gCompress unit next to the filling station, where the gas is pressurized. The permits required for natural gas installations can be found at Demeca. The produced biomethane is pressurised and stored in gas tanks, from where it can be refuelled directly to vehicles from a filling station or sold in a gas container.

Clean and affordable fuel

The transport use of biogas can reduce up to 90% of transport emissions throughout its life cycle.

New business from biomethane

The production and sale of biomethane opens up new business opportunities.

Gas container for resale

The gas is pressurised and stored in gas tanks, from where it can be refuelled directly to vehicles from a refuelling meter or sold in a gas container.

Biomethane

Demeca gFuel and gCompress

Biogas upgrading with membrane technology.

  • Biomethane upgrading 50-100 Nm3/h (BG)
  • 3-stage membrane process
  • Methane restore +99%
  • Biomethane compressing 300 bar
  • Movable gas container and emptying control
  • Tukes (Finnish Safety and Chemical Agency) licensing and auditing process

The transport use of biogas can reduce up to 90% of transport emissions throughout its life cycle.

Biomethane production creates new business

Ilpo Wennström explains how they utilise livestock manure and have create new business with biomethane production.

FAQ

  • What does biogas upgrading cost?

Costs and profitability are calculated on a project basis. First, we find out the needs, present a suitable technical solution and calculate the total cost of the project.

  • What does CNG mean?

CNG (CBG) means ”Compressed biogas” and ”Compressed natural gas”. After biogas production, the gas is pressurised, which can be sold at a filling station or resold in gas containers. In other words, compressed gas is pure, compressed biogas, specifially biomethane.

  • What does the distribution obligation mean?

The purpose of the distribution obligation is to promote the use of sustainable renewable fuels to replace motor gasoline, diesel oil and natural gas in transport. This has been achieved by imposing a national obligation on transport fuel distributors to deliver a minimum share of renewable fuels for consumption each year, known as the distribution obligation.

  • What biogas upgrading technology Demeca use?

The main purpose of biogas upgrading is to extract carbon dioxide from biogas, the second most common gas in biogas, and convert it into pure biomethane. As a processing technique, we use three state membrane technology.
