We are proud to announce that Demeca has been selected as the supplier for the biogas plant to be built in Ranua. The biogas plant is a significant part of the Northern circular economy ecosystem and receives partial funding from the Ministry of the Environment. Pohjois-Suomen Biokaasu Oy consists of 21 farms in the Ranua, Pudasjärvi, and Simo areas. Demeca will deliver a turnkey biogas plant complex (in the initial phase) for 23,000 tons of raw materials per year. The biogas plant will produce 7 GWh of energy from farm side streams, i.e., liquid manure and field biomass. Additionally, the biogas plant will accept lake biomass. The plant complex has been designed with expansion capacity, allowing for the reception of 60,000 tons (approx. 20 GWh) of feedstock.

The biogas will be refined into biomethane in Demeca gFuel biomethane refining and pressurization units. The gas will be directed to a refueling station located in the plant area, where compressed biogas (CBG) will be sold for passenger cars and trucks. Additionally, gas will be loaded into transfer containers for transportation to be used in traffic and industry. The digestate produced in the biogas process will be hygienized and fractionated by separation into solid and liquid fertilizers, which will be returned to the farms’ cultivation cycle. In the plant design, attention has been paid to the plant’s operation and maintenance, as well as environmental impacts and, for example, the prevention of odor nuisances.

”Almost two years of intensive work on the project with farmers from Ranua has culminated in this selection. We are impressed by the good team spirit of the farmers involved in the project. Successful project development also requires active and strong leadership. Excellently managed project development by Mika Impiö and Jan-Erik Impiö! The project has also been strongly promoted by Henri Karjalainen from Envitecpolis Oy and Ilkka Kovalainen from Digikierto Oy. We thank the board of Pohjois-Suomen Biokaasu Oy and the farmers for their trust in us, and we are moving forward with enthusiasm to the construction phase of the plant,” rejoice Sales Manager Johannes Linna and Sales Director Sami Vinkki.
